Please note: This session was originally scheduled for Thursday, 6th July, but will now run on Thursday, 10th August 2023. Students and schools have asked us to run some TeenTech Live sessions after school and during the school holidays. So we are delighted to be able to offer this incredible live and interactive session on Contemporary Design during the Summer holidays. Schools and teachers can register for this event and share the view link with students to watch from home. And students and parents can register directly!
Join us for a special TeenTech Build Your Future Live session looking at Contemporary Design. What does it take to be a designer of physical spaces or digital applications? How are iconic buildings created? What tools are used by architects and product creators?
We’ll be joined by Dallas Campbell (television presenter and podcast host), who will be talking to Zoe Laughlin (co-founder/director of the Institute of Making) about their exciting work in the field of material design, and James West (Arup) about their work on London’s new Elizabeth Line.
The Institute of Making is a research club at UCL that explores the made world: from molecules to buildings, synthetic skin to spacecraft, soup to diamonds, and socks to cities. It provides a creative home for makers of all disciplines to innovate, contemplate and understand materials and making.
Arup is a global engineering and design firm involved in the Crossrail project, also known as the Elizabeth Line, since its inception. The Crossrail project is a new underground rail system that connects areas to the west and east of London, expanding the city’s capacity and connectivity. Arup has contributed to various aspects of the project, such as route planning, tunnel design, vibration mitigation, and station design.
If the timings don’t work for your school, or if you can’t join the sessions live, don’t worry! All sessions will be available for playback during the programme and you can even send us questions beforehand for our experts to answer.
Our exciting TeenTech Live Build Your Future programme helps students aged 11-19 understand exciting career opportunities in the connected cities of the future through fun, interactive and engaging live sessions, and challenges set by industry experts to develop your students’ skills.
This is generously funded by the Ove Arup Foundation. The programme provides your students with access to industry experts from Arup and other local and global organisations.
