We’re really excited to announce the finalists for the TeenTech Awards. At a time when life at school and home has been so disrupted, our judges were in awe at how students had given so much time, energy and ‘a phenomenal amount of work’ to develop their own ideas to make life better, simpler safer or more fun.

One judge commented,

‘I was honestly blown away by the quality, skills, storytelling, perspicacity and the sheer amount of work these projects had poured into them. Every single person and school should be so immensely proud of their work and know you have gone above and beyond. I truly hope that everyone involved goes on to keep up their efforts and goes onto have amazing lives and careers.’

All the judges commented on the high standard of entries. Brett O’Brien from BT who judged Digital Skills said,

‘Several in our category were of university standard. Ultimately, we believe the projects chosen as finalists will make a very big impact on the world but we were very impressed with the efforts made by all applicants’.

With ideas ranging from automatic page-turning devices for musicians, a covid friendly bus,  ingenious ways to collect hockey balls off the pitch, to imaginative designs for Eco Fun parks, young people have tackled real-world problems, large and small to find solutions of their own.

The TeenTech Awards consistently see a high number of entries from girls. This year 62 girls and 33 boys have reached the final.

The finalists will now prepare for a special week in July where they will be able to explain their ideas to panels of experts in a process carefully designed to be valuable to all students. This video from former finalists explains how they benefitted from the year-round structure of the TeenTech Awards.

Our thanks go to all the teachers, parents and mentors who have supported students in the midst of this challenging year. A special mention goes to teacher Abi Hooper who ate her way through over 50 packets of raisins to provide the packets for the student’s model.

We’ll be showcasing the finalists’ projects, and announcing the winners, during the TeenTech Awards final, which we will be streaming on Monday July 12th.
