On Wednesday 11th October 2023, up to 300 students from Hampshire & surrounding areas will take part in the TeenTech Hampshire Festival at the Hampshire Court Hotel in Chineham, Basingstoke.
The festival will bring local and national companies face to face with primary and secondary school students to engage in hands-on activities aimed at opening their eyes to the fantastic opportunities in science, technology and engineering. Companies taking part include Viasat, BAE Systems, Network Rail, Fujitsu, Stannah, Atkins, AWS, BT, Bletchley Park, Nuance, Microsoft, JP Morgan, NHS Medical Engineering, University of Portsmouth & 360+ NHS Careers Partnership, Haleon, Ocado, NHS Sustainability, Willmott Dixon, Vodaphone, Engineering Development Trust, NHS Medial Engineering, British Computer Society, Cool LED, Code Ninjas and Xtrac, with LeadaMarket also supporting the event.
We are also delighted to welcome Alex Lewis and his colleagues from the Alex Lewis Trust, who will be providing a 30-minute Challenge Zone session on assistive technology. At the age of 33, Alex contracted a rare Strep A infection in 2013 and, as a result, became a quadruple amputee. The way he has not only faced this huge challenge but also worked with universities and small companies to pioneer assistive technology so that he and others can live their lives to the full is nothing short of incredible.
The day will allow students to spend meaningful time with company representatives and take part in tasks and challenges which provide them and their teachers with a much greater understanding of different sectors. The students will also engage in an innovation session where they can develop their own ideas with a focus on health innovation to make life smarter, simpler, safer or more fun. They can then enter them into the annual TeenTech Awards which celebrates the best ideas around the UK.
The festival will be hosted by TeenTech CEO and co-founder Maggie Philbin. TeenTech festivals provide the environment for inspirational experiences which can be life-changing for the young people and allow companies to connect with potential future employees in a meaningful way.
Co-founder of TeenTech, former Tomorrow’s World reporter Maggie Philbin OBE says, “ I am delighted to be returning to the Hampshire Court Hotel to deliver this exciting event and look forward to welcoming students, teachers and businesses for a day of amazing activities.”
