TeenTech Roehampton Festival (Year 10 – Year 12)

University of Roehampton Grove House, Roehampton Lane, London, England, United Kingdom

This session for Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 students will include a series of hands-on activities which will enable them to meet a range of employers in digital, science, technology and engineering. There will be workshops providing insight into the wide range of STEAM careers and the different university or apprenticeship programmes that could lead them there. This also includes a tour of the Roehampton campus where students will be able to ask questions about university life.

Schools can bring a group of ten students who have taken part in the virtual event on Tuesday 19th March 2024. They will bring their project to the TeenTech Festival on Thursday 25th April, where they will receive feedback from experts and also participate in a series of lively challenges and activities which bring the world of science and technology to life.

TeenTech Milton Keynes 2024 Festival Virtual Innovation Live Event

The TeenTech Milton Keynes Festival will bring together schools and colleges across the region for an exciting interactive programme to help young people understand the range of opportunities across digital, science and technology, and the many different entry points. Upfront of the in-person TeenTech Festival event, we will run this virtual TeenTech Innovation Live session on AI and Innovation. This session is open to as many students as you like. This could be an entire class or year group. This session is online with guest contributors working in contemporary industry. The livestream can be viewed from a screen in several classrooms, or a large hall if appropriate. Students can interact by submitting questions throughout the live stream; these questions come to the TeenTech team, who sends them to the presenter to ask on screen. Students are then set an innovation challenge, where they will devise solutions to address real-world problems connected to the session topic. Schools can then bring a group of ten students who have taken part in this event to the TeenTech Milton Keynes Festival on Wednesday 3rd July 2024 (at the South Central Institute of Technology), where they will receive feedback from experts and also participate in a series of lively challenges and activities which bring the world of science and technology to life.

During this introductory session, experts will join us to tell us about their exciting work on Augmented Reality projects. We will cover the latest developments in Augmented Reality and the Metaverse. This session will inspire and excite students about this technology's potential and demonstrate how related technologies (AI, Machine Learning, sensors and data) can enhance an AR experience. We will also take students behind the scenes of Bloc Digital. This creative studio creates AR, VR and Mixed Reality applications, and they will explain the key differences between these technologies and the experiences they offer.

TeenTech Awards 2024: Top Tips for Finalists

Following on from the success of our previous Top Tips sessions, we will be holding a workshop for TeenTech Awards finalists to help them prepare for the TeenTech Awards finals judging day. We will talk the students and teachers through what to expect on the day and how they can best prepare. We will talk through what the students need to do upfront of the final too. The students will be able to submit questions throughout the session that we will answer live on air. The students will be able to watch this session either in school, with you, or you can share the joining link directly with them (via your internal school platforms), so they can watch from home. They will be able to submit questions, safely, throughout the live event.

Industry experts will discuss the challenges of designing in Augmented Reality and the considerations for different hardware forms (phones, tablets, headsets). We will introduce design concepts, including mood boards, video/text, triggers and the considerations for interactions within Augmented Reality experiences, including gestures and controls. Our presenter will showcase software students can use to visualise their ideas and create wireframes for their AR applications. We will also speak to a UX/UI Designer about her role in creating AR experiences.
